Severe Weather Continues in North Texas

Shelf Cloud Moving into Frisco

June 9, 2019

Due to some complications, this post unfortunately was delayed. To Recap the storm that occurred, Storms began to develop in Sherman TX, racing down South toward DFW. These Storms came out of nowhere. Soon they intensified and the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Collin County and Dallas County. This storm produced Straight line winds and quarter size hail. The leading edge of a storm is very intense and is the most intense of the whole storm. The leading edge typically produces Hail and High Winds. Love Field Airport measured winds in the storm and at 1:35 PM, winds were calm. At 1:40, it measured 63 and then eventually 71 MPH winds. There were many reports of tree damage and power outages. This storm was very intense, and parts of it even were rotating, like these Shelf Clouds in the image above. But no tornadoes were produced because the CAPE was to weak and the wind shear was not in favor of tornadoes. Although, many places did get Straight line winds up to 86 MPH. Straight line winds are intense downdraft winds (58 MPH+) that come out of a Strong Thunderstorm, Usually a Gust Front. Even non-Tornado producing storm can be very dangerous so when the National Weather Service issues a Warning, pay attention!

FUTURE WEATHER

Convective Outlook Radar Scope

Severe Storms are expected to form along a incoming dry line from the west spreading scattered storms through North and East Texas. Areas in the Orange could receive better chances for storms and for hail and high winds. Areas in the Yellow could see some storm as well but chances are lower. Areas in the green will not see any severe weather but could see some scattered showers. The storms that blew through around 1:00 will be the most severe weather we will get the rest of today. Chances are we may not see any more severe storms today in the DFW area. Places more likely to see Severe Weather are places West and South West of here where the dry line will form and could produce some bad weather like strong winds and hail. However, when it comes to a dry line, storms can be pretty unpredictable. All that's left is playing the waiting game. Make sure to check the Forum Section for more updates on the storms to come.
