What a terrifying, deadly, destructive storm. There are no words to describe the damage and horror it causes for millions. Let's go over the life of Dorian and understand why it was so destructive.
First, Dorian was just a cluster of storms weak and puny down by South America. Later, it strengthened to a Cat 1 and rushed up toward Puerto Rico. Missing Puerto Rico, thankfully, it surged NW toward the US. Many tracks showed it slamming into Florida, or even passing through it into the Gulf. But a high pressure system that was over the Bahamas moved NE, opening the door for Dorian to move North or curve north since nothing was stopping it. And that's just what it did, but after it unleashed its destructive Cat 5 power on the Bahamas. Curving west, picking up more warm wind and moisture, it grew to be a Cat 5. The eye of the Hurricane was astounding. The eye walls were so strong and perfectly developed, which made the hurricane so destructive. (since the most damaging parts of the hurricane are by the eye wall)
Hurricane Dorian rushed in making three different landfalls in the Bahamas. 200+ MPH winds were recorded for as long as two days straight. Hurricane Dorian then stalled and stopped moving as it was right above the NW islands of the Bahamas. Then, dumping approximately 2-3 feet of rain, it moved W at 1 MPH still stuck in the Bahamas. It stayed like that for over 2.5 days. Everyday sending 200+ MPH winds, heavy rain, 50 foot waves at time, plus 20+ Storm surge which raised the sea level up into the mainland. Pictures shown that the entire island with low lying land is under 2-5 feet of water still to this moment.
Just look at the track of Hurricane Dorian. This storm is the 2nd Strongest storm by winds ever recorded, and the strongest storm to ever hit the Bahamas. Not only was it destructive to the Bahamas, it was destructive to the Carolina's.
Future Weather

So long,
Wow, this blog was packed with fantastic information and new visuals and additions! Fascinating review of a devastating hurricane. I’m learning a lot in a most enjoyable way. Keep up the great work and I, too, can’t wait for the next game day. 🤔 Hope to beat the other players especially that B Fasulo guy! 😉
The destruction of the Bahamas was terrible. We need to be praying for the people that were affected by the storm. Much rebuilding needs to be done.
LOVE the new home page with the moving clouds. Very eye-catching. Also love the video section showing timelapse of clouds and rain. Very creative. Looking forward to more timelapse videos. As always a very professional Weather Center website with very informative information.
