Weekly Update July 3, 2019

July 3, 2019

Yup! That's right! Tomorrow is July 4th! And Weather Center is proud to Celebrate. For a couple days Weather Center's Front page will look different for July 4th. It will switch back to the previous image as before soon after. I'm sure everyone has lots of cookout plans and trips and time with friends and family and I'm sure some of you want to know the weather for July 4th... and that's when Weather Center comes in. Let's talk about the Weather tomorrow.

So, unfortunately, July 4th won't be dry for some of you... Ugh. I know. But here comes the good news. There is no severe weather forecasted for any of North Texas so this is not a severe weather set up by any means! Storms will begin to form for some areas in North Texas around 12:00 PM and continue until 4:00 or 5:00 PM. Not all of you will see storms. Of course, you can't rule out a random strong storm that pops up in the area but only a very small fraction of people could see a stronger storm. (small hail, 40 mph wind gusts) 'Storm prediction center has no concerns either on the weather tomorrow.' :)

Weather Forecast:

Today- Partly Cloudy, High 90'. A small chance of showers in the afternoon
JULY 4TH!- Cloudy, high 91' Then a chance of Thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Friday- Sunny, High 97'. A small chance of showers
Saturday- Partly Cloudy, High 95'. A small chance of showers in the evening.
Sunday- Sunny, High 97'.
Monday- Mostly Sunny, High 96'
Tuesday- Sunny, High 98'.
Wednesday- Sunny, High 97'. Then a cooler front will move in later creating some possible rain and cooler air for the days to come.

This Weeks Weather Question:

What makes this time of year Hurricane Season?

Hurricane Season is from June 1 - November 30. Why is Hurricane development favorable this time of year? Well first of all, waters are warm in the ocean during this time and also there is a lot less wind shear in the atmosphere too. (Wind shear makes storms intense over land but not with hurricanes) Hurricanes will form when a cluster of thunderstorm group together over warm waters creating a "Cell Cluster." When this happens, it's considered a tropical disturbance. When the storms continue to feed on the moisture and warm air, it could intensify into a tropical depression. Now it has a strong updraft where the storm can literally use the warm water as fuel to drive the rotating storm. The storm will only survive in warm water, near a low pressure area, and where there is little wind shear, for wind shear will disturb the storms rotation. The storm will from then on keep intensifying until one of those 3 elements leave. The most destructive part of Hurricanes not the wind, but the rain and storm surge. A storm surge is where the storm literally drags out water from the shores behind the the rotating band that's moving away, counter clockwise, and the storm takes that water and throws it on the land in its path. Hurricanes are serious storms. They are destructive and shouldn't ever be thought as less powerful than they truly are.
