Heat Center:

Here's some good news! We have passed the peak heat of the year and we are starting to enter the time of year where there is shorter days, cooler days, and wetter days! We are also past the 100 degree days and now we are in low 90's, high 80's. We won't see anything cooler than that until later in September but it's a start! Also, chances for rain has increases, which leads me to the next section.

Future Weather:

Unfortunately, if you are hoping for a thunderstorm like this, who won't see that for a while most likely if you are in North Texas. But rain chances have upped and some could see several showers throughout the week and next week. In fact, many of you may have already gotten a shower or two and may see a scattered thunderstorm throughout today! Chances will lower after today but then increase again on Tuesday. Yesterday, Aug 23, there was some severe weather down in Fort Worth believe it or not. 60 mph wind gusts were recorded and some quarter sized hail also fell in some places. We could be seeing some more storms in the next few weeks so I have a challenge for you! If you take a picture of some cool storms and weird looking weather, send it in through the forum or comment system of Weather Center, then I will look over them and the best picture taken, that person will be rewarded! :0

Weather Forecast:

Today- Mostly Sunny☀️, High 92'/ Low 77'. A 20% chance of showers in the afternoon.💦
Sunday- Partly Cloudy☁️, High 96'/ Low 79'
Monday- Sunny☀️, High 99'/ Low 79'.
Tuesday- Mostly Cloudy☁️, High 95'/ Low 77'. A 30% chance of showers in the morning/afternoon.💦
Wednesday- Partly Cloudy☁️☀️, High 96'/ Low 77'. A small chance of showers
Thursday- Partly Cloudy☁️☀️, High 97'/ Low 78'. A small chance of showers
Friday- Mostly Sunny☀️, High 92'/ Low 71'
Saturday- Mostly Cloudy☁️, High 87'/ Low 68'. Then a 30% chance of showers and Thunderstorms in the evening.💦 ⚡️

Wildest Weekly Weather:

----Largest Hail stone ever recorded in Colorado----

This hail stone fell in Colorado, setting the state record for largest hail stone. It came in at 4.83 inches in diameter. It fell from a intense Super cell storm that was starting to lose intensity. Why was it so big? Just because it was able to stick to more ice chunks before hitting the ground, or that it was able to stay in the cloud longer before it fell. But this isn't the biggest hail stone ever. The biggest was a hailstone the size of a volley ball (8.5 inches in diameter)!! Talk about a hole right through your roof!

Viewer Requested Questions:

TamiCooke-

Maybe the various types of clouds and what they mean.

Answer:

Cirrocumulus- Thin wavy clouds- above 18,000 feet

Cirrus- Feather like clouds- Above 18,000 feet

Cumulonimbus- intense storm producing clouds- from low to up to 50,000 feet

Stratocumulus- puffy flat clouds- 6,000-18,000 feet

Cumulus- Puffy small to medium size clouds- Below 6,000 feet

Stratus- Flat thin clouds- Below 6,000 feet

I would like also to know what causes high pressures and low pressures which seem to have one of the greatest affects on weather.

Answer: The Earth's atmosphere exerts pressure on its surface.... Areas of high and low pressure are caused by rising and sinking air. As air warms, it rises leading to low pressure at the surface. As air cools, it sinks leading to high pressure at the surface. When fronts of either warm or cool air move in, that's why a type of pressure system usually follows.
